A Brief History of Snowbank

About Us

The Snowbank In Florida has been around since the beginning of time. Well, not exactly although sometimes it seems like it!

Snowbank started in Georgia in 1966 when we acquired our first Westie from a USAF family stationed there. We were lucky to have acquired one of good American and Canadian bloodlines including Remasais, Rachelwood, Ben Braggie and Wallmoore. We were also fortunate enough to live near a handler whose really nice import, Ch Whitebriar Jalisker, sired our first litter. We tried several kennel names including Reps Snow, but one day as I passed by our picture window looking out at the dogs, I noticed they were all in a clump on a freshly raked pile of pine needles. I commented that for a second I thought I saw a snowbank. We laughed, but the name stuck.

We moved around a good bit but the Snowbank always went along. In Kentucky, we met Betty Williams (Doon Macduff) from whom we purchased a pup that became our first champion, CH Reps Snow Frosted Morn. From Dorothea Daniell- Jenkins, Toronto (Of The Rouge) we purchased another foundation pup, CH Winde Mere Pride Of The Rouge. The Indiana Westie club members were very helpful and informative so that by the time we landed in Florida, the Snowbank was off and running.

Cliff gave me my first Scottie as a birthday gift back in the '80s and Blueberry’s Tatum A-Peel bred by Kathi Brown became our foundation as the 'oxymoron’ of the bank.

After we both retired the Snowbank relocated to Choctaw Beach, Florida, where we sit high on a bank enjoying a lovely breeze from the bay located across the road. Cliff and I are both still very active in showing breeding and training Westies and Scotties as well as actively supporting various related organizations.

We encourage you to visit our pages and share our enthusiasm for black and white terriers!
